The Madison Comprehensive football team is looking to improve their 2022 finish. | Hudl.com

The Madison Comprehensive Rams had a tough 2022 season in which they went 1-9 overall and 1-5 in OCC play. Their lone win was a 35-0 shellacking of Mount Vernon in October. They were close in losing 10-7 to Shelby in last year’s season opener.

New head coach Brent Besancon takes over this season in his first year as head coach for the Rams. Junior quarterback Cam Kuhn returns after leading the Rams’ offense last year. Receptions were fairly evenly distributed among eight receivers last year, four of whom will return this season.

Coach Besancon will have to juggle his returning and new offensive scheme and players as last year’s team struggled to find the end zone and averaged less than 14 points per game.

Last year’s top rusher, Zane Wynn, has since graduated as have the top two receivers, Peyton Myers and Noah Finley. Myers was also last season’s top kick returner. On defense, the Rams top tackler and sacker Hunter Hutcheson also graduated, but the next top two tacklers, Will Kepple and Owen Wigton are back. Wigton also led in team interceptions last season.

First team all-OCC in 2022 were senior Hunter Hutcheson and junior Will Kepple. Second team honorees were sophomore Owen Wigton and senior David Parks; Honorable Mentions went to senior Tatum Turcutt, senior Noah Finley and junior Grason Sasis.

In their season opener, the Rams fell to the Shelby Whippets 41-14 and look toward their OCC campaign.

Madison Comprehensive begins their 2023 OCC season on the road against Wooster, Friday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.
