Fire destroyed the Indian Bear Winery structure early Sunday morning in a blaze that required more than 40 firefighters from 11 agencies to confine and contain, according to Bladensburg Fire District Chief Daniel Rice.

Rice said in a press release posted on Facebook that firefighters were alerted to the commercial structure fire at 3483 McCament Road in Walhonding in Knox County at 4:06 a.m.

The Bladensburg fire chief reported that when he arrived on scene at 4:14 a.m. the two-story, commercial structure was heavily involved in fire. As firefighters established incident command, additional units from other area agencies began to arrive, including two engines from Walhonding Valley Fire.

The first fire apparatus to arrive began to work the fire with a 2.5-inch attack line and provided exposure control to a nearby structure. The extent of the fire resulted in the incident commander shifting to a defensive operation.

The Ohio Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.

Rice reported the building was a total loss.

No firefighters or civilians were injured during the incident.

Firefighters were on scene until 1 p.m. before returning to the Bladensburg Fire District stations.
