Mount Vernon 15, Mansfield 0

Mount Vernon 9, Tri-Valley 5

On May 6, the Mount Vernon Lady Jackets won a romp and a tight game, beating Mansfield 15-0 and Tri-Valley 9-5, to improve to 18-6 on the season and 10-2 in OCC play.

Against Mansfield, (1-10 and 0-9) a 10-run first inning by the Lady Jackets essentially put the game away and Miranda Oswalt and Addi Parker combined to shut out Mansfield on three hits and one walk to keep it a rout. In the first, Mount Vernon took advantage of two singles, an error and a sac fly for a 2-0 lead, and Jenna Riley homered on a 2-1 pitch to make it 4-0. A hit batter and three singles made it 7-0, and a two-out error, followed by a McKenzie Krownapple double and a Sydney Silvery single gave the Jackets a double-digit first. A run in the second, another in the third and three in the fifth closed out the scoring for MV.

Nine Lady Jackets combined for 16 hits, with Rylee Meyers leading the attack with three. Eight MV batters drove in runs and seven scored, led by Carly Kennedy and Mia Rider with three tallies apiece.

In the second game, MV downed Tri-Valley (16-9, 10-4) 9-5, after being down early. Behind 3-0 in the second, the Lady Jackets struck for three runs.

The Jackets added four in the fourth and two in the sixth to secure the win. In the three-run second, a one-out single by Brooke Dovenbarger, a passed ball and an RBI single by Meredith Jones put in the first MV run. With two outs, Grace Bates singled in a run, followed by a run-scoring double by Rylee Myers.

Down 4-3 in the fourth, Dovenbarger led off with a home run to center to tie it. Four singles and a fielder's choice made it 6-4 Jackets. A single by Kennedy made it 7-4, and Mount Vernon never looked back. Eight Lady Jackets accounted for 15 hits. Dovenbarger, Bates and Myers each connected for three safeties, and Bates drove in three runs while Dovenbarger scored three times.

Northmor 25, Genoa Christian Academy 0

Northmor (12-5, 5-4) was dominant against Genoa Christian Academy, piling on 19 hits while Shelby Cooper tossed a one-hitter in a 25-0 win, May 5.

The Golden Knights started strong with a nine-run first followed by a five-run second inning. In the fourth inning they exploded again for 11 runs and the team was able to take home a lopsided victory.

Cooper picked up the win going five innings, allowing only one hit and walks while striking out 13 batters.

Leading the offense was McKenna VanDyke who went 3-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs. Maddie Simpson went 2-for-3 with a run. Mahaila Strobel was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and a run. Kate Kissling was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Hailey Pollard was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs. Maddie May went 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBIs. Hailey Pollard went 2-for-2 at the dish with a pair of runs, three RBIs and a double.

Northmor 22, Mansfield Christian 0

The bats continued to be on fire for Northmor, as they eclipsed the 20-run mark for the second straight game, this time beating Mansfield Christian 22-0, May 6, amassing 47 runs in less than 24 hours.

The Golden Knights scored five runs in the first, four runs in the second, a pair of runs in the third and then exploded for 11 runs in the fourth inning. They piled on 17 hits and only allowed one.

Kate Kissling pitched five innings, allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out eight. 

Reagan See was 1-for-1 with a triple, three RBIs and a run scored. Emily Zeger was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and four runs scored. Mahaila Strobel was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Taylor Cantrell went 1-for-2 with a double, a run and an RBI. Kissling was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.

Centerburg 3, Fredericktown 1

It took extra innings for Centerburg (18-5, 10-1) to come out on top over Fredericktown (7-16, 1-11) in a 3-1 victory on May 5, led by a three-hit day for Kayla Ferrell that included a homer.

Centerburg went up 1-0 in the third inning and then the Freddies tied it up at 1-1 in the fourth inning. The game went into the eighth inning where Centerburg put two runs on the board and held on for the win.

Ferrell was 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored to lead the offense for Centerburg. Chesnee Fairall was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Fredericktown was led by Chloe Wells, who was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Julia Partington went 1-for-4 with a double. Taylor Brown was 1-for-2 with a run. 

Shelby Morris picked up the win for Centerburg, going eight innings and allowing one earned run, five hits and four walks while striking out eight batters.

Riley Rine took the loss for Fredericktown, going a complete seven innings, allowing eight hits, three earned runs, a walk and two strikeouts.

Centerburg 5, Danville 0

Shelby Morris was on top of her game against Danville, tossing a two-hit shutout to lead Centerburg to a 5-0 win, May 4.

The Trojans jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning and then added a run in the second and a run in the fifth inning.

Morris allowed two hits and three walks, while striking out seven batters in the complete game shutout win. Leading the offense was Chesnee Fairall, who went 2-for-4 with a homer for Centerburg. Alyssa Harris and Brooklyn Pankuch each went 2-for-3. Sara Stowe was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Lexi Moore was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

Danville’s two hits came from Taryn Mickley and Addy Bocock, who both hit singles.

Grace Gonberg pitched well for Danville despite recording the loss. She allowed five hits and five runs, but only two were earned runs. She also allowed two walks while striking out five batters. Bocock pitched an inning in relief, allowing a hit and a strikeout.

Danville 4, East Knox 3

Grace Gronberg smashed a homer for Danville (13-6, 6-4) to lead the Blue Devils to a 4-3 win over KMAC rival East Knox (14-4, 5-4), May 6.

Danville was up 3-0 in the fifth inning and then East Knox tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth. Danville then added a run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead and were able to hold on to win.

Gronberg was 1-for-3 with a homer at the plate. She also recorded the win, pitching six innings and allowing two earned runs and four walks while striking out eight batters. Addison Mickley was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Danville. Taylor Price was 1-for-3 with a run and Taryn Mickley was 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

East Knox was led by Baylee Comer who was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Kayla Finch was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a run. 

Maddy Cotsamire went six innings for East Knox, allowing three earned runs, six hits and a walk, while striking out seven batters.
