Fredericktown High School has had a number of its top student-athletes officially sign commitments to further their academic and athletic careers in college. Among the commitment events was the recent signing day for Freddies’ three-sport standout Mason Hoeflich, who will be attending Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, to play football. Hoeflich played football, wrestled and currently runs track for Fredericktown.

Hoeflich was selected to the First Team All-KMAC (Knox-Morrow Athletic Conference) and First Team NCOFCA (North Central Ohio Football Coaches Association) in football, and was named Honorable Mention in OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) All-Central District. In wrestling, Hoeflich has been an OHSAA district qualifier, but football is where Hoeflich shined the most, playing fullback (gaining 397 yards) and outside linebacker, where he averaged 8.3 tackles (91 tackles on the season) per game last season for the Freddies. As a wrestler, Hoeflich won a gold medal at the Freddie Invitational at 190 lbs.

Hoeflich said he chose Baldwin Wallace for the challenge that awaits him.

“This presents a great opportunity for me in the classroom and on the field,” he said. “It's a great program that will be a great challenge for me to overcome.”

He said his goal for his freshman season is to work his way onto some of the varsity teams.

Academically, Hoeflich will be focusing on exercise science, with a plan to become a physical therapist.

The signing ceremony took place in the Fredericktown High School Library and was attended by more than 50 supporters, including family, friends, teammates and coaches.

Fredericktown High School Athletic Director and Assistant Principal Adam Brown said Hoeflich has been a team influencer.

“Mason has been an outstanding leader and three-sport athlete while at Fredericktown,” Brown said. “He is a competitor and plays with a passion that helped himself and his teammates be successful over the past four years. We are all looking forward to seeing what great things Mason will accomplish in his future.”
