HOWARD – Daniel G. Hansen, of Howard, passed away Feb. 21, 2023, of congestive heart failure.
He was born Dec. 7, 1937, in Muskegon, Michigan and was the son of Ove H. and Ella B. Hansen, who preceded him in death. He is survived by two sisters, Laila V. Harshbarger of Howard, and Elsa A. McClure of Emmet, Idaho. He is also survived by his two sons, Eric G. Hansen of Babylon, New York, and James D. Hansen of Forest Grove, Oregon and by 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Beth C. Hansen.
Dan is a graduate of Muskegon High School (1956) and Muskegon Community College (1958). He earned a marine engineering degree with honors from the United States Merchant Marine Academy (1963) and a Master of Business Administration from Western Michigan University (1970). He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve where he attained the rank of lieutenant.
After a period at sea and three years with the U.S. Navy as a civilian engineer, Dan had an extensive career in plant and manufacturing engineering. Some of the companies he worked for included: General Food Corporation, Brunswick Corp., Jeffrey Mining Machinery Co., NCR Corp. and Harsco Track Technologies. After retirement, he was active in Habitat for Humanity and established a successful ReStore in Mount Vernon. He was a member of Journey Church in Howard.
A memorial service will be held on April 29 at Journey Church in Howard.
He requested no flowers and that gifts be made out to the Alzheimer’s Association.
