2022 has been a stellar year for the senior long-distance runner.

At Loudonville's Cowen Invitational on April 16, Streby ran the 1600M in 4:28.87, breaking the EK mark of 4:34 set by J. Wells in 2000.

At the April 30 Fredericktown Invitational track meet, Streby knocked 7.62 seconds off his time from last year and won by nearly nine seconds. He also helped his team win the 4x800 relay.

At the Fredericktown Invitational on April 29, Streby ran the 800M in 1:55.19 and broke the EK and meet records. The EK record was 1:59.07, set by A. Doup in 2003.

Streby was also part of the EK boys team that won the Jim Proper Danville Invitational and he contributed to the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams.

In the OHSAA Track and Field Championships, Streby put a polish on his record-breaking season with a second-place finish in the 800M with a time of 1:53.49. This season, Streby has set East Knox school records in the 800M (breaking a mark that stood for 20 years), 1600M (breaking a mark that stood for 23 years), the 400M and turning in top-five school marks anchoring the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams.

In cross-country this year, Streby won the Northmor Invitational Aug. 22, won the Newcomerstown Invitational Sept. 3 and won the Seneca East Stars, Stripes and Lights, Sept 10.

At Seneca East's Stars, Stripes and Lights night cross-country run on Sept. 10, Streby won the DIII event in a time of 15:59.62, winning by nearly 15 seconds.

East Knox track coach Jason Ewalt said Streby is all about the team.

“Nathan is always willing to help others on the team with events, and pacing athletes to achieve their individual goals,” Ewalt said.

Ewalt and EK distance coach Ran Jones are also quick to point out that Streby has been added to the NTHS (National Technical Honors Society), named to the National Honors Society, carries a 4.0+ GPA and was a state qualifier in track and cross in the 2021 calendar year.

Ewalt added that Streby works hard, trains hard, performs hard and helps hard.

In a personal statement, Streby said, “I have loved running and competing ever since I could walk. When I was younger, I would run around the house and see if I could beat my previous time. That's when I realized how much I love running and competing. I even do that today. Whether it be on the track, getting the highest grades in school or playing cards with my friends, I strive to win. I have been doing four sports: Golf, cross-country, basketball and track throughout my junior high and high school career. I share my love of running by helping the Knox County Ohio Special Olympics Track and Field team. I have learned that I can set crazy goals and reach them because of my competitiveness.”

He plans on competing for the Buckeyes and studying sports medicine.
