Lyons is D-7 Defensive Player of the Year; Reid is D-6 Coach of the Year

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Football All-Ohio teams were announced Monday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association, and Danville linebacker Levi Lyons was selected as Division VII Defensive Player of the Year, while Mount Gilead football coach Mike Reid was named Division VI co-Coach of the year. 

In addition, two Mount Gilead players were named to First Team Division VI and nine players from four schools were honored in some fashion. Three Danville players made First Team defense in D VII and five Blue Devils were honored on some level.

Locally, in addition to Reid’s Coach of the Year recognition, Mount Gilead senior quarterback Matthew Bland was one of six signal callers named to the All-Ohio First Team. He was the only local player named to the D VI offense First Team. On defense, Mount Gilead’s Judah Reid was First Team DL.

Other local players honored were, on offense, Hayden Krinn, Mount Gilead, third team OL, and on defense, Charles Naylor, Northmor, DL and Hunter Fulk, Northmor, DB.

Honorable mention went to AJ Bower, Northmor, QB; Garrett George, Mount Gilead, RB; Carson Steinmetz, East Knox, WR; and Colin McAvoy, Cardington-Lincoln, OL.

In Division VII, Danville’s Levi Lyons was named Defensive Player of the Year. Lyons finished 11th in Ohio in tackles with 163. Joining Lyons on the First Team defense were Danville’s DB Kaiden Colopy and punter Max Payne.

Danville DL Dillon Looney was named to Second Team defense, and on the Third Team defense was Danville’s Ryan Lucas, LB.

The OPSWA was created in 1972 to support, promote and recognize coverage of high school sports across Ohio and is endorsed by the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Additional divisions announced throughout the week will be printed in future editions.
