MOUNT VERNON – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s basketball team (3-2, 0-0 CL) defeated Lawrence Tech University (1-3, 0-0 WHAC) by a score of 78-56 on Friday, Nov. 11, in Ariel Arena.

The Lady Cougars and visiting Blue Devils played a tightly contested first half, but MVNU led at the half by a score of 34-29. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Cougars outplayed the visitors from Lawrence Tech as they outscored the Blue Devils 20-6 to seal the 78-56 win. MVNU’s defense shined as it held Lawrence Tech to just 35.3% shooting from the floor and 18.8% shooting from three.

Peyton Davis was given the task of guarding Lawrence Tech’s prolific scorer, Kendall Fisher. Davis was up to the challenge as she held Fisher to just eight points, 12 below her average for the season.

Senior Maggie Coe led MVNU in scoring with 19 points. She added four rebounds and an assist. Rylee Pireu was a force on the floor, scoring 18 points, snatching six boards and finishing with two assists and a steal. Sage Brannon stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals. Grace Vermilya had nine points and seven rebounds off the bench. Angela Roshak scored six points and grabbed nine rebounds

The Lady Cougars went back in action on Tuesday at Ariel Arena as they hosted No. 20 Rio Grande.
