MOUNT VERNON – Sylvia Joann Whitaker, 82, of Mount Vernon passed away on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 24, 1940, in Tazewell, Virginia, the daughter of Clarence and Beatrice (Whittaker) Meade Sr. 

Joann was a member of the Vineyard Church of Mount Vernon and was an avid supporter of the Disabled American Veterans. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by her family. 

She is survived by her children, Karen White of Mount Vernon, Theresa Potter of Cardington, John David White of Mount Vernon and Michael Douglas (Amy) Whitaker of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Hill, and Kimberly Massey.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Arnold White; her second husband, Douglas Whitaker; three brothers, Teddy Meade, Clarence Meade Jr. and Roger Meade; and a sister, Nora Elizabeth Meade.

The family will observe a private graveside service at Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Sylvia Joann Whitaker.
