The Mount Vernon Nazarene soccer seasons are over after both the men’s and women’s soccer teams fell to Grace College on Saturday in the Crossroads League Quarterfinals at Winona Lake, Indiana.
The men’s soccer team (7-6-5, 2-3-4 CL) lost to No.13 Grace College (11-1-6, 5-1-3) in the Crossroads League Quarterfinals by a final score of 1-0.
MVNU entered the quarterfinal match as the seventh seed in the Crossroads League. Grace came into postseason play ranked No. 2 with only one loss on its resume in 2022. MVNU gave the Lancers all they could handle in the match. After the first half of play, the match remained scoreless. It took until the 65th minute for Grace to score the first and only goal of the match.
Each team had eight total shots and three shots on goal. Nate Hutsell had two saves in goal for the Cougars.
Women also fall in quarters
The MVNU women’s soccer team (6-10-3, 3-4-2 CL) fell to No.18 Grace College (12-3-1, 6-2-1 CL) by a final score of 2-0.
The game between sixth-seeded MVNU and third-seeded Grace started as an even matchup as neither team could find the back of the net in the first half. Grace came out strong in the second half as Danae Moriarty scored the first goal of the game in the 57th minute. Grace added another goal in the 76th minute, this time from Kailey Burrell. Grace would go on to win by a final of 2-0, ending MVNU’s season.
Hannah Miller helped keep the Cougars in the match as she finished the day with five saves.
Grace outshot MVNU 19-0 in the match.
