MOUNT VERNON – Denise Johnson joined the city of Mount Vernon as its second Human Resources director on Oct. 10.
Johnson replaced Maurine Perry, who left in August.
“I am beyond excited to have joined the City of Mount Vernon as the new Human Resources director,” Johnson said in a news release. “My plan is to work hard and serve our strong and welcoming community. I am looking forward to engaging with employees toward achieving the City’s goals while upholding teamwork, innovation and trust.”
Her salary was set at $77,868 in a contract approved by City Council at its Sept. 26 meeting.
Johnson has more than 20 years of human resources experience and most recently worked at Zane State College as its manager of talent management and employee relations and as deputy Title IX coordinator. She worked in human resources at Hometown Savings Bank – formerly Terre Haute Savings Bank.
Her human resources management portfolio includes talent management, employee relations (including mediation services), benefits, professional development and training, Title IX, safety and security processes, and business operations, the release said
She earned master’s and bachelor’s degrees in human resource development in higher education and industry from Indiana State University.
