The Mount Vernon High School Jacket Boosters have teamed up with the Ohio National Guard, Knox Veterans Services, Mount Vernon Police Department and Mount Vernon Fire and EMS to recognize America's armed forces (current and veterans) and first responders for MVHS Varsity athletic events scheduled for Sept. 22-24. The celebration is called Armed Forces and First Responders Recognition Week.

Those service men and women will have free admittance to all varsity events Sept. 22-24 along with a time to honor their sacrifice to their community and country. A badge or military card showing past or present duty is required for free admission per person. The Knox County Veterans Office can provide veterans with their own free card (with proof of service required) at the KCVS office, Mon-Fri from 8 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The following is a list of MVHS athletic events Sept. 22-24 for the celebration: 

Sept. 22: Girls volleyball JV starts at 5 p.m. MVHS Gym. Opponent: Wooster High School.

Sept. 23: Football kickoff at 7 p.m. against New Philadelphia.

Sept. 24: Boys soccer at 1 p.m. (vs. Clear Fork HS) and girls soccer (vs. Shelby High School) at 3 p.m., both at Energy Field.
