The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s volleyball team (6-0, 0-0) remained perfect on the season after securing a pair of victories in the Lourdes Classic, hosted by Lourdes University.
After dropping the first set in their first match of the day by a score of 25-23, the Lady Cougars made easy work of RV Saint Xavier University (3-1, 0-0). MVNU took the next three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-13 and 25-9 to close out the match. MVNU kept the momentum going against Lourdes (2-2, 0-0) in the second match of the day. The Lady Cougars swept the Gray Wolves by scores of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-16 to remain perfect in 2022.
In the first match, Ashley Stumperth and Erica Gasser led the offensive attack for MVNU with 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Gasser had a match-high hitting percentage of .321. Molly Galaszewski tied for the match-high in digs with 23. Reagan Nuss followed Galaszewski with 21 digs of her own. Paige Brenner had 31 assists to go along with 11 digs and four kills. Abbey Niemesh led the match with four block assists. Faith Maloney followed with three.
In the second match, Brenner had 24 assists, four digs and three kills. Gasser led MVNU with 12 kills. She hit a blistering .409 in the match. Galaszewski had 13 digs to lead the way for MVNU. Nuss had nine digs for the Lady Cougars.
