MOUNT VERNON – Educational aides hired by the Knox Educational Service Center will earn up to $13 an hour and have the opportunity to qualify for two $500 bonuses during the 2022-2023 school year. Insurance options also are available.
Full-time aides’ work hours vary but are usually between six and seven hours per day in K-12 classrooms of the ESC’s client districts: Centerburg, Clear Fork, Danville, East Knox, Fredericktown and Mount Vernon, as well as the ESC’s Knox Learning Center and Knox ESC Preschool.
Applicants must have at least a high school diploma but are not required to reside in Knox County. Anyone interested in applying should call the ESC office at 740-393-6767 or apply online at knoxesc.org.
“As we emerge from the diminishing shadow of the pandemic, we are working with our client districts to assure full classroom staffs to benefit all students,” said Dr. Timm Mackley, Knox ESC superintendent.
“Employment as an educational aide, often with children who have special needs, can be a satisfying and rewarding experience. Working at the direction of the classroom teacher, aides can have a direct, positive impact on a child’s education.”
The ESC will pay for an applicant’s criminal background check and educational aide permit from the Ohio Department of Education. Both are required by law.
Qualified applicants may request to work in a specific district, but final hiring decisions are made by each district.
Regular ESC employees, including educational aides, are paid twice monthly. Employees may elect to be paid only during the school year only for hours worked, with no pay during breaks or the summer. Or they have the option to have 24 pays – stretched throughout the summer.
Employees who work at the beginning of September 2022 and continue through November will receive a $500 bonus in their Nov. 30 pay. Those who are working on Feb. 1, 2023, and work continuously through May will receive a $500 bonus in their May 31 pay. Employees have the option to contribute to investment accounts or annuities.
Regular employees are provided $40,000 in life insurance coverage.
Employees are offered, at no cost to them, Minimum Essential Coverage for medical care, which does not include hospitalization or major medical coverage. However, employees have the option to enroll – at their cost – in coverage from various vendors who offer products such as dental, vision, accident, cancer insurance and flex spending accounts.
All regular ESC employees are automatically enrolled in Ohio’s School Employees Retirement System. Employees and the ESC each contribute to the pension program.
