A report from TT Crouch, assistant golf Mount Vernon Nazarene University and former PGA Canada Tour winner, recapped Junior League action from last week at the Vernon View Golf Course, 901 Beech St. in Mount Vernon.
According to Crouch, “Mount Vernon’s, Griffin Beach fired a 26 to take the lead in the Wendy’s Division. David Bright out of Centerburg shot a 25 to lead the Mount Vernon GMC division. Colin Fox and Jaydn Row both sit at the top of the leaderboard with a 28 to lead the Savage Pools & Patios division."
The Junior League runs every Thursday from 10 a.m. - noon with play ending July 21 and is limited to 30 players (boys and girls) ages 10-18. Instruction focuses on putting and chipping, basic swing mechanics, the rules of golf and on-course play.
On the leaderboard from last week, in the Wendy’s Division (levels 2 and 3), in which participants must shoot 36 or less to advance to the next level, the top scores came from Griffin Beach – 26, Grayson Workman – 31, Austin Hammond – 32, Silas Bailey – 32, Somi Bright – 33, Luke Moore – 34, Tyler Marsell – 34, Tyler Ing – 35, and Ava Parker-Cuervo – 35.
In the Mount Vernon GMC Division (levels 1 and 2), David Bright led with a 25, Leo Bailey – 27, Cooper Lowe – 29, Cody Dapprich – 30, Cuyler Anderson – 30, and Justus Shaw – 31.
In the Savage Pools and Patios Division (levels 1 and 2), Colin Fox and Jaydn Row tied at 28, Madison Lauthers – 29. Trygg Waugh – 33, Sutton Quinlivan – 34, Brady Prettyman – 35, Jett Mezie – 35.
Levels for golfers are: Level 1 – putting; Level 2 – 25 yards; Level 3 – 50 yards; Level 4 – 100 yards; Level 5 – 150 yards; an Level 6 – 200 yards.
“My goal is to give back to the community because the community gave me so much growing up,” Crouch said. “I grew up playing Junior League, and I want kids to have the same experience I did.”
Crouch played community golf in Mount Vernon as a teenager, played golf for and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 2010 and received a full scholarship to play golf at Florida Southern College, where he won back-to-back Division II national championships, before turning pro. He won the Ohio Open in 2016 and was 2018 PGA Tour of Canada champion.
Week 3 play begins Thursday, June 16, at 10 a.m. at Vernon View Golf Course.
