The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets tennis team sent four duos to the 2022 Watkins Memorial HS Doubles Classic on May 12, and with a win and a second-place finish, the Jackets finished second overall.

Mount Vernon Nazarene University's Ramser Tennis Courts were the site for competition, which drew Mount Vernon, St. Francis DeSales, Newark and Watkins Memorial high schools' boys tennis teams to the fray. Each high school sent four doubles teams to participate.

The scoring allowed for each doubles team to earn points for its school when playing round robin matches against the other teams in their division. Champions and finalists were crowned in each division, and a team champion was determined.

Mount Vernon's teams consisted of Quinn Hoffman and Alex Beuhrer as the No.1 doubles team, Bryan Sabula and Toby Boggs as the No. 2 team, Beckett Elkins and Mateo Elkins as the No. 3 team, and Pete Lawhon and Andrew Conway as the No. 4 team. Lawhon and Conway won the fourth doubles division, and the Elkins brothers were the runners-up in the thirrd doubles division. With those teams scoring big points and strong last-round play from Hoffman and Beuhrer and Sabula and Boggs, Mount Vernon was able to edge past Newark for second-place team honors, finishing behind Watkins Memorial.
