The Ohio primaries took place on Tuesday, and U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan secured the Democratic vote in the race for U.S. Senate, according to unofficial results.

Ryan has represented Ohio’s 13th House District since 2013 and has been a member of Congress since 2003. He won the primary with a nearly 70% majority over opponents Morgan Harper and Traci TJ Johnson.

“From now through November, we’re going to be traveling to every corner of Ohio, talking to and hearing directly from voters about the stakes in this election — including Mount Vernon and Knox County,” Ryan told Mount Vernon News on Thursday. “But Ohio is a big state with 88 counties, and I can only be in one place at one time, which is why we’re also building an aggressive coordinated campaign with organizers stationed in every corner of the state, who can get to know their neighbors and help people get involved and spread the word about our campaign.”

Ryan will face Trump-endorsed GOP primary winner, venture capitalist and author J.D. Vance, who won 32.2% of the Republican vote in the primary, followed by Josh Mandel (23.89%) and Matt Dolan (23.33%). On the Democratic ballot, Ryan’s 69.71% of votes beat out Harper’s 17.73% and Johnson’s 12.56%.

Ryan visited Mount Vernon in March and said the issues constituents were talking about — bringing back manufacturing, rebuilding the state, strengthening the middle class and taking on China — are common priorities across Ohio. At the time of his visit, Ryan pledged to push for the passage and expansion of the America COMPETES Act of 2022.

“I’ll work hard to deliver on them for all Ohioans,” Ryan said. That delivery, he continued, starts with the American Rescue Plan and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. These legislations are “putting people to work rebuilding our infrastructure, making sure every Ohioan has access to affordable high-speed internet, and helping improve our quality of life by hiring more first responders and giving them a pay raise, investing in our libraries and schools and making sure all our students have a chance to succeed,” he said.

The Buckeye State’s blue-collar votes remain in the spotlight. If elected to the Senate, Ryan said he would strive to “cut workers in on the deal,” including raising wages, providing easier union access, increasing small business and job market support, protecting Ohio pensions and “voting against every bad trade deal that threatens Ohio workers.”

“At the end of the day, I know what it’s like to come from a community that’s been forgotten by too many for too long,” Ryan said. “I have a track record of bringing investment back to create new opportunities and put people to work, and of bringing businesses and workers to the table to get results. In the Senate, that’s exactly what I’ll do for communities like Mount Vernon, so that we can make sure you’re on the menu for a new chapter of growth and opportunity.”

Ryan encourages constituents to visit www.TimforOH.com for more information on his campaign.

“I’ve always answered to the workers who keep our state running — whether you work a trade, teach our kids, stock our shelves, or keep us safe and healthy — and I’ll always answer to you in the Senate,” he said.
