Asher’s three homers, Highland's 10-run fifth propel Lady Scots to 21-13 win over Galion

Stevie Asher bombed out three home runs, and 10 was the number of the afternoon for the Highland Lady Scots on Wednesday as they powered up to a 21-13 football score victory over Galion. 

Highland scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth to turn a 12-11 deficit into a 21-12 lead, and the win marked the 10th consecutive win by the Lady Scots to tie a school record set by the 2018 team.

The game started small, with Galion talking a 1-0 lead after one. From that point on, both teams scored in bunches. Highland scored six in the second to go up 6-1. Brooklyn Croy led off the second with a walk, Abby Jordan sac-bunted and reached on an error, and Asher homered to put Highland up 3-1. Two walks followed by a single by Faith Geiger made it 4-1. An error and a ground out put two more on the board.

The Tigers responded with nine in the third to take a 10-6 lead, and Highland came back with three in the bottom of the inning on Asher’s second homer and a two-run double by Geiger to cut the deficit to 10-9, and Highland retook the lead with two in the fourth on Asher’s third home run of the game. 

After Galion regained the lead at 12-11 in the top of the fifth, the Lady Scots put together a monster 10-run fifth to seal the game. Geiger led off the fifth with a double, Adyson Landefeld singled in the tying run, and a fielder’s choice, an RBI single by Emma West and a Brooklyn Croy homer made it 16-12. A single, a walk and a fly out were followed by a run-scoring single by Guinevere Jackson. With two out, Landefeld’s RBI single made it 19-12, and Audrey Robinson tripled in the 20th run. An error made it 10 for the inning and 21 for the game.

Highland connected for 18 hits, with Jackson, Geiger, Landefeld and Asher each swatting out three hits. Asher drove in six runs, Landefeld had four RBIs, and Geiger and Croy each finished with three RBIs.

Asher was in the circle for the Lady Scots, throwing 131 pitches, allowing two earned runs as the Scots made nine errors behind her.

Blue Devils take early lead, romp over Indians, 16-3

The Danville Lady Blue Devils scored four runs in the top of the first to set the stage for a 16-3 rout over the Mount Gilead Indians on April 27. S

coring in every inning, Danville was up 6-1 after two and with a six-run fourth took a 13-3 lead going into the fifth, when it tacked on three more to secure a five-inning win.

Danville outhit Mount Gilead 12-4, with eight Lady Devils getting hits. Alicia Humphrey, Taryn Mickley, Cami Newbold and Cordi Richert each had two hits for Danville, and Kennah Bump rapped out two hits for the Indians. Addison Mickley and Richert doubled, and Humphrey blasted out two triples in the game. Taryn Mickley led the offense with four RBIs. Bump drove in two runs for Mount Gilead.

Lady Pirates hold Freddies to one hit in 12-1 rout

Cardington-Lincoln scored four in the first and was ahead 12-1 after three innings to sail to a 12-1 demolition of Fredericktown on April 27.

Cardington bashed out nine hits, and the Lady Pirates' pitching duo of Longsdorf and Ari Simpson held the Lady Freddies to one single.

Longsdorf started and pitched four no-hit innings, allowing one walk and an unearned run while striking out eight. Simpson pitched the final inning, allowing one hit and striking out one. Emma Hatfield singled for Fredericktown’s only hit.

Six Lady Pirates smacked out hits, with Mac Linkous, Longsdorf and Emmalee Artz nailing two each. Hailee Edgell drove in four runs, and Linkous scored three times to pace C-L. On the base paths, Abbi Hardwick stole three bases, and Linkous swiped two.

Lady Jackets, down by six, roar back to sting Lady Eagles, 18-10 

Mount Vernon fell behind by six runs in the top of the first but used a nine-run third to crush New Albany, 18-10, April 26. 

The Lady Eagles scored six in the top of the first, and the Lady Jackets got most of it back with a four-run first. Lilly Erb started the MV first with a triple and scored on a single by Mac Schlosser. With one out, an error followed by a two-run double by Rhyli Pope made it 6-3, and Addison Christopher singled in a run to make it 6-4.

Mount Vernon took the lead for good with a nine-run outburst in the third. Christopher singled and Emilee Myers hit a one-out single. Olivia Adams singled to load the bases, and Erb singled in a run. Schlosser singled in the tying run, and singles by McKenzie Krownapple, Emma Calkins and Pope made it 10-6 Lady Jackets. With two outs, singles by Kelly Sullins and Myers increased the inning count to nine and the score to 13-6.

Leading a 21-hit Lady Jacket attack, Erb connected for four hits, including a double and triple, Kronwnapple banged out three hits and two RBIs, and Christopher homered and drove in four runs on three hits. Pope added two hits and finished with five RBIs. Emily Burke got the win in relief, pitching 6 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs
