MOUNT VERNON – Phyllis Rae McKenzie passed away Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Palm Garden Pinellas, Largo, Florida. Her loving and loyal sister Shirley was by her side. She was 80 years old.

Phyllis was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, on May 2, 1941, to the late Alphonsus (Tate) McKenzie and Helen Rita Mckenzie. She was the second youngest of eight brothers and sisters. Phyllis resided on McKenzie Road in Mount Vernon a portion of her life, and then moved to Clearwater, Florida. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1959 and was employed as a switchboard operator for the the United Telephone Company in Mount Vernon and Barnett Bank in Clearwater, Florida.

Phyllis was affectionately known as Aunt Pizz by all of her nieces and nephews.  She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed painting ceramics, made the greatest peanut butter fudge and had a very contagious laugh! Her favorite color was purple. Phyllis had perfectly groomed hair and was always seen wearing fashionable tailored dresses.

Phyllis is survived by sisters, Shirley McKenzie of Largo, Fla., Rosalie (Billy) Creasey of Bedford, Va., and Lucillie Parker of Bellville, Ohio; brother, Gary (Beth) McKenzie of Collegeport, Texas; brother-in-law, William Bayliss of Mount Vernon; nieces, Sheila Bayliss (David) Hughes, Keitha Bayliss, Tami Oakes, Traci Cotton, Teresa Mannerino, Gwen McKenzie, Pam (Rick) Ingraham, Janice Call, Teri Brenkus and Tonja (Bill) Kent; and nephew, Todd McKenzie. She is also survived by special friend Christa Wakayama.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Frances Nadine Bayliss and Lois Evelyn Lang; brother, Richard Lee McKenzie; nieces, Jamie Lang Baljak and Jodell Lang Neidlinger; and nephew, Jeffrey Lang.

Phyllis will be laid to rest in the Calvary Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
