Seth Mullendore | Clean Energy Group

Mount Vernon High School Class of 1994 graduate Seth Mullendore took over as president and executive director of Clean Energy Group (CEG) on Jan. 1.

Mullendore, whose parents, Steve and Jeanne Mullendore, still live in Gambier, is only the second leader of the national nonprofit that’s focused on advancing an equitable and inclusive clean energy future. He succeeded founder Lewis Milford, who retired at the end of 2021 after 23 years of leading the Montpelier, Vt., organization, according to a press release.

Mullendore joined CEG in 2014, serving most recently as vice president. He led the organization’s Resilient Power Project, which awarded more than $1 million in regrants to nonprofit organizations and affordable housing providers to enable greater access to solar energy and battery storage. CEG plans to award another $1 million in the next three years.

“He’s exactly the leader CEG needs to face the very real challenges of advancing an equitable and inclusive clean energy future,” Brian F. Keane, chair of the CEG noard of directors and president of SmartPower, said.

Mullendore and Milford launched the Phase Out Peakers initiative in 2018, a collaborative effort to support local community and environmental justice groups in accelerating the retirement of polluting power plants with renewables and battery storage alternatives.

Mullendore earned his bachelor of science in geoscience at the University of Southern Maine and his masters at Stanford University in atmosphere/energy and civil and environmental engineering.

He and his wife, Anna Bourakosky, and their 4-year-old son, Isaac, live in Plainfield, Vt.
