Trojans remain unbeaten in KMAC with 71-32 romp over Pirates
Centerburg improved to 11-1 and remained unbeaten in KMAC play at 7-0 with a thorough 39-point shellacking of Cardington-Lincoln (3-10, 1-7 KMAC), 71-32, Tuesday night at home.
Controlling the action and shooting well, Centerburg hit 18 field goals and eight threes to six and six for Cardington. Protecting the ball well, Centerburg turned it over only three times to 10 for C-L.
The Trojans had the game in hand from the beginning, outscoring the Pirates 22-10 in the first and increasing the lead from there.
In the first, five scorers for Centerburg were paced by Levi Houck with six points and Mckinnon Mead with five. AJ Hall connected for five points, and Connor McIe sank a long three for C-L in the quarter.
The second quarter saw Centerburg take a 40-21 halftime lead. The Trojans again had five players score, led by Mead’s six. Journey Williamson drained two threes in the second for the Pirates.
The Trojans put the game away with a 22-6 run in the third to put the score at 62-27. Mead hit for eight and Isiah Reynolds sank seven for the Trojans.
Centerburg slowed the pace in the fourth, with Mead sinking a three as the Trojans took a 9-5 quarter. McIe scored all five points for C-L in the fourth
Centerburg had nine players put up points in the game, led by Mead with 22, Reynolds with 15 and Colton Martin with 12. The Pirates had six scorers and were led by McIe with eight points.
Jackets return to win column with 74-64 win over Presidents
The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets overcame a dreadful second quarter, in which they were outscored by 16, and ended a five-game losing streak to improve to 6-7 on the season an 3-2 in Ohio Cardinal Conference play with a 10-point victory over Marion Harding, 74-64, Tuesday night.
Marion Harding fell to 6-4.
The Yellow Jackets started strong, fell into a second-quarter drought, then responded with a 49-24 second half to secure the win.
The first quarter ended with a 17-16 Mount Vernon advantage, but the Jackets went ice cold in the second, as the Presidents went on a 24-8 rampage to lead 40-25. The Jackets responded with a 26-11 run in the third to tie the score at 51-51 entering the fourth. As cold as the Jackets were in the second quarter, that is how hot they were in the final 16 minutes, as they continued to score in the fourth at a 23-13 clip to take the 10-point win.
The Jackets hit 10 threes in the game to four for the Presidents. Mount Vernon received scoring contributions from seven players, with four hitting double figures. Owynn Gleason sank five from 3-point range and led the Yellow Jackets with 17 points, Trevor Buttke scored 14, and Caden Rowland and Nolan Belcher each hit for 13. Marion Harding’s Alex Stokes was game's high scorer with 25 points.
Fredericktown takes close one from Northmor, 59-54
Northmor went down by eight after one, and both teams played it tough and close the rest of the way, as Fredericktown prevailed thanks to a strong fourth quarter to take a KMAC contest, 59-54, Tuesday night.
The Freddies took a 15-7 lead in the first on a torrid quarter by Brady Lester, who hit for nine points. Grant Bentley scored four, and Hunter Fulk hit a three for the Golden Knights.
Lester added five in the second for the Freddies, as did teammate Teegan Ruhl, as Fredericktown took a 28-23 lead into the locker room at halftime. Logan Mariotti drained two threes and scored nine points in the second for Northmor.
The Golden Knights cut the lead to two, 42-40, after three on two long-range threes and nine points from Caleb Schnuerer and seven from Bentley. Kaid Carpenter kept Fredericktown on top entering the fourth with seven points.
The Freddies added three points to the lead in the fourth, getting seven from Lester, and four each from Carpenter and Ruhl. Max Lower scored six in the fourth to keep it close for Northmor.
Of the six players who scored for the Freddies, most of the damage came from the trio of Lester-Carpenter-Ruhl. Lester scored 23, Carpenter hit for 17, and Ruhl added 11. Northmor had scoring from seven players, led by a trio of itrs own. Bentley hit for 14, and Mariotti and Lower each scored 12.
The Freddies improved to 6-7 and 4-5 in the KMAC, and the Golden Knights dropped to 7-6 and 4-4 in conference.
Consistent Bulldogs keep pace in KMAC, rout Indians, 54-32
East Knox 10-3 on the season and 7-1 in the KMAC, won its third straight and kept pace with Centerburg in the race for the KMAC pennant (one-half-game behind), with a 22-point win over Mount Gilead, 54-32.
The Indians fell to 6-7 and 4-4 in conference.
East Knox was consistent throughout and scored 13 in the first, second and third quarters and 15 points to wrap up the fourth. Mount Gilead was held to five in the first, six on the second and seven points in the third, before going basket-to-basket with EK in the fourth, putting up 14 points.
In the first, EK got 13 points from three players. Dillon Moreland scored five, and Shane Knepp and Peyton Lester each hit for four. Elijah Chafin hit a first quarter three for the Indians, and Quade Harris sank a deuce.
In the second, Sam Whitney added two free throws for the Bulldogs, with the rest of the damage coming from Lester (five) Knepp (four) and Moreland (two). Three Indians each hit a field goal in the quarter.
The third quarter was a two-man show for East Knox, with Whitney scoring eight and Knepp five. Chafin hit for three of Mount Gilead’s seven.
In the fourth, EK got more team members involved, as five players shared in the 15-point output. Paul Butterman, Chafin and Harris each scored four points for the Indians.
The Bulldogs got scoring from six players in the game, with the most potent contributions coming from Knepp with 19, Whitney with 12, Lester with nine and Moreland with nine. Mount Gilead was led by Chafin’s 12 and Butterman’s eight.
