FREDERICKTOWN – Thomas A. Hinger Sr., 82, of Fredericktown passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at his home. He was born on March 25, 1939, in Mount Vernon to the late George and Mabel (Sharp) Hinger.

Tom honorably served his country in the Air Force for 21 years, serving during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Air Force, he went to work for Cooper Energy Services as a machinist for 26 years. Tom was a member of the AmVets, where he was a former Post Commander, the American Legion, V.F. W., the Moose Lodge and the Eagles. In his spare time, Tom enjoyed golfing, coin collecting and going to the casino, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Thomas is survived by his children, Thomas A. Hinger Jr., Craig Hinger, Michael (Penny) Hinger and Cindy Cunningham, all of Fredericktown; five grandchildren, Brandy, Katie, Brett, Darwin and Briana; three great-grandchildren; Jaydean, Micayla and Leah; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon G. (Thompson) Hinger; a granddaughter, Courtney Hinger; sister, Jean Yoakum; and brothers, Bill, Carroll and Skip Hinger.

The family will receive friends from noon until the time of a funeral service at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 10, at the Snyder Funeral Home, 33 East College St., Fredericktown. Tom will be laid to rest beside his wife, Sharon, in Forest Cemetery with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
