MOUNT VERNON – After a recount on Dec. 8 that left election results unchanged, trustees in three Knox County townships are ready for swearing-in ceremonies.

The Knox County Board of Elections held recounts for trustees’ elections in Howard, Jefferson and Pike townships. The difference between the apparent winners and losers in the Howard, Jefferson and Pike townships’ elections was less than one half of one percent, which triggers an automatic recount, Kim Horn, Knox County director of elections, said.

“Nothing changed at all. ... We did the recount, and the results remained the same,” she said.

Clarence Griffith held on to his two-vote lead over incumbent Craig Gilmore, 444 to 442, in Howard Township in the recount. Gregory E. Lawson was the other incumbent and held onto his seat with 489 votes in the November election.

Jefferson Township will welcome Doyle Sumrall and Justin M. Kauffman to its board of trustees.

Sumrall had the leading vote total with 86 votes to secure a trustee position. Kauffman’s one-vote lead (55-54) over Frank DiMarco held up in the recount, putting Kauffman on the township’s board of trustees for the next four years.

Daniel R. Robinson easily held onto his seat on the Pike Township Board of Trustees with 132 votes. But fellow incumbent John Crunkilton lost his seat to Curtis N. Bechtel, whose one-vote lead held up in the recount, 108-107.
