MOUNT VERNON -- Conservative Scott Pullins of Knox County formed an exploratory committee to run for the Ohio House in the newly drawn House District 98.
The new district will be made up of all of Knox County and parts of Morrow and Holmes counties. The Mount Vernon attorney said that should give a Knox County candidate an advantage.
“I’m running because not enough Republicans are standing up for small businesses and individuals. Democrats have sold their souls to big government and too many Republicans are siding with big business,” Pullins told the Mount Vernon News.
During the pandemic, small businesses were deemed not essential while big businesses like Walmart were called essential, he said. Big technology companies harmed the rights and livelihoods of individuals, he said.
“The only potential opponent that I am aware of is (State Rep.) Darrell Kick, (R-Ashland). Rep. Kick is a nice guy, but he’s also one of those Republicans that sat on his hands and let Mike DeWine and Amy Acton ruin Ohio. I will fight back against mask mandates, vaccine mandates and vaccine passports,” Pullins said.
He supports House Bill 248, which he said prohibits those things that are costing people their jobs while nothing is said about it. He also wants education reform, with more school choice options and banning Critical Race Theory (CRT) teaching as his priorities.
“This district needs a voice that will fight on behalf of individuals and small businesses and work to limit the authority of the governor and health officials,” Pullins said.
The attorney said he spent his career as a lawyer and consultant working on behalf of individuals and businesses. He plans to use that experience for their behalf in the Ohio House.
“We need Republicans to fight back against these mandates that are causing people to lose their jobs,” Pullins said.
His 17-year-old daughter, Alaina Quinn Pullins, will manage his exploratory campaign.
“She asked to help and to run the committee, and I welcomed her support. She’s interested in politics and is much smarter than I am,” he said about his daughter, a senior at Mount Vernon High School.
Pullins is a charter school board member, political consultant and writer. He is the cofounder of the Ohio Taxpayers Association and an elected member of the Knox County Republican Central Committee.
He earned a bachelors of arts in political science from Ohio State University and his Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School.
