The winter sports season is here, and various organizations throughout Knox County will have leagues or events that people can participate in.

Emily Vonck, director of youth programs and director of community engagement at YMCA of Mount Vernon, said the group would be having a winter basketball league, along with swim lessons and gymnastics.

“The season dates are Dec. 4 to Feb. 5,” she told Mount Vernon News. “We serve 3-year-olds to eighth-graders for YMCA basketball. We have a partnership with Jr. Cavs, and each participant gets a free ticket to go to a Cavs game. Registration is over, and we have 360 kids signed up for the winter.”

All Out Sports, a Christ-centered organization that provides a safe environment to play sports, is currently registering interested participants for a girls' volleyball league.

Assessments will begin in early December and league play will begin in January, according to the website.

The 2022 girls’ volleyball program will feature three age divisions, a second-third grade clinic, a fourth-sixth grade low impact league and a seventh-eighth grade middle school league.

Registration will end before noon on Dec. 3, and the leagues will begin in mid-January and run through mid-March. Registration fees range from $40 to $60.

The Visit Know Ohio calendar states that the Mount Vernon Christmas Walk and Parade will be Dec. 1, the Fredericktown Christmas Walk on Dec. 7, the Fire and Ice at Honey Run Waterfall on Dec. 7 and the Bladensburg Christmas Lights and Parade on Dec. 8.

The Knox County Chamber of Commerce calendar states that TouchPointe marriage and family services – crossroads of parenting and divorce classes, along with electronic recycling – will be Dec. 4.  A free fitness workshop Cybex Bravo functional trainer will be held on Dec. 5. An additional free fitness workshop stability/BOSU trainer will be held on Dec. 14. A Knox County Safety Council is scheduled for Dec. 15 and bingo will be held at the Country Club rehabilitation campus Dec. 21.
