On the Bluffton Beavers' home court, Kenyon College Ladies volleyball players Macy Reimbold and Maya Sapsford led a valiant effort, but the Ladies were swept 3-0 by Bluffton University on Tuesday.

Reimbold finished with six kills, while Elyse Davidson and Lindsey Abramson recorded four kills apiece. Sapsford totaled six assists, and Ellie Luciani recorded 17 digs, with nine more from Reimbold, but Kenyon fell to 0-1 to begin the 2021 season. The individual efforts were overshadowed by team errors as Kenyon’s 20 kills were matched by 20 errors. On the other side of the net, Bluffton tallied 38 kills with 14 errors for a .255 attack percentage.

The Beavers saw stellar kill performances by Kaylie Campbell and Alysha Like, who each finished with eight kills, while Emma George added seven kills and Kelly Armentrout had six.

The first set started well for Kenyon, which was ahead 4-2 before Bluffton ran off eight straight points, aided by three Kenyon errors, for a 10-4 advantage. The set fell apart from there and ended 25-15 for the Beavers.

The second set was hard-fought, with the lead bouncing back and forth until Bluffton increased its 13-12 lead to 19-12, thanks to two Kenyon errors, three Bluffton kills and an ace. The Beavers finished off the second set at 25-18.

The final set was all Bluffton, after taking a 10-4 lead en route to a 25-14 final set score. Bluffton recorded 12 kills and only four errors for a third-set attack percentage of .286.

The Ladies hope to bounce back as they head for the road to Marietta College and the two-day River City Classic. The schedule includes a game against Washington & Jefferson College on Friday, with matches against Marietta and Franciscan University on Saturday.
