The annual traffic safety campaign Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over begins this month, running Aug. 18 - Sept. 6 to raise awareness of the dangers of driving while impaired.

“We need motorists to commit to keeping our roads safe by planning ahead to designate a sober driver,” said Lt. Gurjit Grewal of the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. “Everyone can help fight the battle against impaired driving by actively influencing friends and family to do the same.”

In 2020, Knox County had six traffic fatalities, with 50 percent caused by impaired drivers under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. This percentage is down from 2019, when Knox County had seven traffic fatalities, with impaired drivers causing 71 percent of those crashes. Fortunately, Knox County’s traffic fatality numbers seems to be on a steady decrease, with only one traffic fatality in 2021.
