MVGSL roundup: Creech leads Don White to 10U title

Don White State Farm scored a pair of runs in each of the second and third innings to get by Overhead Door to capture the Mount Vernon Girls Softball League 10U tournament championship with a 5-3 win on June 27 at Memorial Park.

Emerson Creech struck out 12 batters in a complete-game victory in the circle and added a home run at the plate to lead Don White.

Kendall Melton struck out nine batters and added a double, and Haylee Frye hit a home run to pace Overhead Door, which scored two in the fifth inning but fell short.

Overhead Door 3, Don White State Farm 2

Overhead Door used a three-run first inning and held off Don White to force a second championship game in the 10U tournament on June 27.

Kendall Melton struck out 12 batters and Mea Joyner and Holly Hogle had two hits apiece to lead Overhead Door. Joyner tripled twice and Hogle hit a double.

Emerson Creech struck out 11 batters and was one of six different batters to record a hit for Don White, which scored a run in the third and another in the fifth. Paityn Hurt hit a double.

Don White State Farm 6, Overhead Door 5

Don White rallied for two runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh to beat Overhead Door 6-5 in a walk-off in the semifinal round of the 10U tournament on June 26.

Abigail Yocum had three hits and Emerson Creech struck out 13 batters to lead Don White.

Kendall Martin struck out 10 batters and added three hits, and Mea Joyner had two hits – including a home run – to pace Overhead Door.

Overhead Door 7, Danville Veterinary Clinic 1

Overhead Door rallied for four runs in the opening inning and added three more in the second frame to roll to a 7-1 win over Danville Vet in the consolation final round of the 10U tournament on June 27.

Kendall Melton struck out 12 batters and added two hits at the plate to lead Overhead Door. Haylee Frye also had two hits with one being a home run.

Morgan Hinkens struck out 12 batters and added a triple at the plate to pace Danville Vet.

Danville Veterinary Clinic 12, Real Living 0

Already leading 4-0, Danville Vet exploded for eight runs in the third inning and rolled to a 12-0 win over Real Living in the consolation semifinal round of the 10U tournament on June 26.

Kyleigh Lannoy had three hits, and Delilah Colopy struck out four batters and was one of six batters to have two hits, pacing Danville Vet.

Carlie Culbertson and Kimber Linn each had a hit, and Culbertson added a strikeout in relief for Real Living.

Don White State Farm 3, Danville Veterinary Clinic 1

Don White scored a run in the first inning, a run in the third and a run in the fifth to outlast Danville Veterinary Clinic 3-1 in a quarterfinal matchup on June 26.

Emerson Creech struck out 11 batters in a complete game to get the win for Don White. Jaelyn Plumly and Kendyll Bakely had two hits apiece. One of Plumly’s hits was a double.

Morgan Hinkens went the distance for Danville Vet, striking out seven batters. She was also one of six batters to get a hit.

Overhead Door 4, Real Living 1

Overhead Door scored four runs in the first inning and cruised to a 4-1 win over Real Living in a quarterfinal matchup on June 26.

Haylee Fry homered and was one of seven different batters to have two hits. Kendall Melton struck out five batters, and Mea Joyner struck out three to go with two hits to lead Overhead Door.

Kinley Baker hit a triple for Real Living.
