MOUNT VERNON – Alexa Skal of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer team added another accolade to her impressive soccer career on Thursday.
Skal, who graduated in the spring with a 3.46 GPA and a degree in nursing, was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second-Team.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The NAIA All-American had the best season of her career in 2020-21, notching 20 goals and 43 total points. For her career, Skal finished fifth in program history with 51 goals. She also ranked fifth all-time in points scored with 116.
MVNU women’s volleyball announces 2021 slate
The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team announced its 2021 regular season schedule on Friday.
The Mount Vernon Nazarene women’s volleyball team begins its 35-match regular season schedule with a series of matches in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Aug. 20-21, the school announced.
MVNU will begin with the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacies (St. Louis) and Ave Maria University on the first day, and finish with Cornerstone University and Aquinas College on the second day.
The Cougars will then play four matches in Upland, Ind., on Aug. 27-28, with St. Mary of the Woods and Bluefield College coming on the first day, followed by Concordia University (Mich.) and the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) on day two.
Sept. 1 will mark the first conference game of the season for MVNU as it travels to Fort Wayne, Ind., for a matchup with the University of Saint Francis (Ind.). MVNU's first conference match will be followed by a series of matches at the University of Rio Grande on Sept. 3-4. The Cougars will play Montreat College and West Virginia Tech on the first day, and Point Park University and Rio Grande on the second.
MVNU will return to conference play for its home opener against Huntington University on Sept. 10. The team is set to follow that up with road contests at Marian University and Bethel University on Sept. 11 and 15. Both the Knights and Pilots finished last season ranked in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
Following the conference road test, MVNU will remain at home for 10 of its next 12 scheduled matches. During that stretch, MVNU is set to host the Cougar Quad-Tournament on Oct. 8-9. The Cougars host Asbury University, Roosevelt University and Lourdes University in the quad-tournament.
Oct. 16 begins a four-match road stretch before the team returns to Mount Vernon on Oct. 30 for its final home match of the regular season against Indiana Wesleyan University. The Wildcats finished last season ranked No. 11 in the final coaches' poll.
MVNU's last regular season match will be on Nov. 3 at Lake Erie College.

MVNU women's soccer announces fall schedule
The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer team announced its 2021 regular season schedule on Monday.
Coming off a 10-win season, which included a trip to the NAIA National Tournament for the second year in row, the Cougars will play a schedule in 2021 that includes eight teams that finished in the final NAIA Coaches' Poll from last season.
MVNU begins its regular season at home against Cleary University on Aug. 21 before hitting the road for matches at Siena Heights University and the University of Rio Grande on Aug. 25 and 28.
The Cougars then head to Williamsburg, Ky., for a match with Truett-McConnell College on Sept. 3 and Georgia Gwinnett College on Sept. 4. Each of these teams finished the season receiving votes nationally.
MVNU's next two games will present a tough challenge as it takes on Martin Methodist College on Sept. 11 on the road and Aquinas College on Sept. 15 at Cougar Field. Martin Methodist finished last season ranked fifth, and Aquinas finished the 2020 season ranked No.15.
Following two home contests against Lawrence Tech and Concordia University (Mich.), MVNU begins Crossroads League play at home against Taylor University on Sept. 25.
After road matches at Goshen College and Huntington University, MVNU has big home matches on Oct. 9 and 13 against Indiana Wesleyan University and Marian University. The Wildcats and Knights finished last season ranked No.12 and No.4, respectively.
MVNU wraps up its regular season with matches against Saint Francis, Spring Arbor University (finished ranked No.3), Bethel University, and Grace College (finished ranked No.14).

MVNU men’s soccer announces 2021 schedule
The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team announced its 2021 regular season schedule on Friday.
Coming off a strong, nine-win season in 2020, MVNU will look to pick up right where it left off. The regular season begins with two road contests at Shawnee State University and Rochester University (Mich.) on Aug. 25 and 28.
MVNU plays its first home match of the season on Sept. 2 against Ohio Valley. The Cougars will then play another home match on Sept. 4 against Ohio Christian University before hitting the road for a rematch of last season's battle with West Virginia Tech on Sept. 8. Last season, MVNU pulled off a 2-1 upset over the Golden Bears.
MVNU will then play three of its next four contests at home before beginning Crossroads League play at Taylor University on Sept. 25. MVNU then returns to Cougar Field for three straight home matches, starting with Goshen College on Sept. 29.
The Cougars travel to Marion, Ind., on Oct. 9 for a matchup with Indiana Wesleyan University. Three of MVNU's next four matches take place on the road, highlighted by a match at Spring Arbor University on Oct. 23. Spring Arbor, who finished 19 in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll, were upset at home by MVNU last season by a final score of 1-0.
MVNU will wrap up the regular season at home on Oct. 30 against a tough Grace College Lancer team.
