MVGSL roundup: Jeld-Wen holds off Dugan to capture 8U tourney title

Jeld-Wen took control with a six-run first inning and never trailed on its way to winning the Mount Vernon Girls Softball League 8U tournament championship with a 16-14 win over Dugan on June 27.

Elizabeth Holler, Evie McCann, Jaylyn Riley and Jordyn Plumly led Jeld-Wen with three hits each. Riley and Plumly each hit triples and McCann added a double.

Kaylee Mullins and Cenna Adams had four hits piece for Dugan.

Jeld-Wen 17, Dugan Energy 16

Jeld-Wen put five runs on the board in each the first and second innings before putting away a 17-16 win over Dugan with a six-run fourth in a semifinal on June 27.

Victoria Haskins had four hits, and Elizabeth Holler, Evie McCann, Jaylyn Riley, Keagan Hartman and Tinley Boggs added three hits apiece to lead Jeld-Wen. McCann hit a home run, Riley tripled and doubled and Haskins hit a double.

Kinleigh Overholt and Bailey Barnett had three hits apiece for Dugan. One of Overholt’s hits was a double.

Jeld-Wen 14, Alan’s Auto 7

Jeld-Wen blew up for six runs in the third inning and put it away with six more in the fifth in a 14-7 win over Alan’s Auto in a quarterfinal on June 26.

Elizabeth Holler, Kaylin Peck and Jaylyn Riley each had three hits and Keagan Hartman and Jocelyn Plumly each went deep to lead Jeld-Wen.

Peyton Marmet was one of six Alan’s batters to collect two hits. She led the way with a triple and a double.

Dugan Energy 12, Prescription Turf Care 2

Dugan went for four runs in the first inning, four more in the second and three in the third on its way to a 12-2 win over Prescription in a quarterfinal on June 26.

Kaylee Mullins had three hits, including a pair of triples, and Cenma Adams hit a home run to pace Dugan.

Isabella Matheny had three hits with a double and Lexi Horlacher doubled twice for Prescription.

Alan’s Auto 11, Danville Tire & Alignment 0

Alan’s Auto scored six runs in the first inning and rolled to an 11-0 win over Danville Tire in the first round on June 26.

Jaylynn Pauley had three hits and two RBIs and Karli Lang and Samantha Whiting each added three hits and an RBI to lead Alan’s. Pauley homered, tripled and doubled and Whiting hit a double.

Madison Renzy was one of six batters for Danville Auto to get a hit, but the only one with an extra-base hit – a double.

Dugan Energy 21, Danville Feed & Supply 10

Dugan Energy put up six runs in the first inning and never trailed in a 21-10 win over Danville Feed in a first-round game on June 26.

CONSOLATION BRACKET

Dugan Energy 15, Alan’s Auto 14

Dugan scored all of its runs in the first three innings and held off Alan’s to get to the title game with a 15-14 win in the consolation bracket final on June 27.

Alyssa Kandel had four hits and Kinleigh Overholt, Kailey Barnett, Kaylee Mullins and Bailey Payne added three hits each to lead Dugan. Mullins and Licia Clemons each hit a home run and a double and Barnett and Payne each doubled.

Audrey Cheng and Peyton Marmet each had four hits and Abigail Davis added three hits for Alan’s. Marmet doubled twice.

Alan’s Auto 19, Prescription Turf Care 18

Alan’s Auto rallied for 13 runs in the fifth inning to score a walk-off 19-18 win over Prescription in a consolation semifinal on June 27.

Lucy Adams and Abigail Davis had four hits each and Audrey Cheng, Peyton Marmer and Carmen Myers added three hits apiece to lead Alan’s. One of Marmer’s hits was a double.

Morgan Tocheff and Ryleigh Canterbury had four hits each and Lexi Horlacher, Brindlee Abruzzess and Navaeh Hawkins added three hits each. Horlacher hit two home runs, Tocheff hit a triple and a double and Connor added a double.

Alan’s Auto 15, Danville Feed & Supply 13

Alan’s Auto scored six runs in the first inning, three in the second and six more in the third before holding off Danville Feed in the opening round of the consolation bracket on June 26.

Jaylynn Pauley had four hits and Audrey Cheng, Lucy Adams, Peyton Marmet, Karli Lang and Samantha Whiting added three hits apiece to lead Alan’s. Marmet hit a home run.

Claire Ashman had four hits and Carma Warrick, Ali Lannoy and Callie Shulte added three hits each for Danville Feed.

Prescription Turf Care 13, Danville Tire & Alignment 1

Prescription scored all its runs in the first three innings in a 13-1 win over Danville Tire in the opening round of the consolation bracket on June 26.

Isabella Matheny and Lexi Horlacher had two hits apiece to pace Prescription. Horlacher hit a home run and a triple and Matheny hit a double.

Five different players had a hit for Danville Tire.
