MOUNT VERNON – Virgil Ross Norris, 90, of Mount Vernon passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at his home surrounded by loving family. He was born on Dec. 6, 1930, in Letart Falls, Ohio, the son of Ross and Marie (Carnahan) Norris. 

Virgil proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and returned home to eventually move to Mount Vernon and work on the family dairy farm. Virgil was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Colonial City Moose Lodge and attended the Church at Chapel Hill.

Virgil enjoyed woodworking and always cherished his time country dancing with his late wife Barbara Norris. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.

He is survived by his children; Wayne (Louise) Norris of Columbus and Becky (Don) Norris-Fetherolf of Mount Vernon; three grandchildren, Sandra (Chris) Wells, Robin (Eric) Van Nostran and Leslie (Rusty) Richards; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Opal Bentz of Michigan, and Eleanor Kloes of North Carolina.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Norris; a granddaughter, Jennifer Norris; a brother, Carroll Norris; and a sister, Mary Margaret Weaver.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050, where friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Jon Whisner will be officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. This service will also be livestreamed at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home Facebook page.

Memorial contributions in Virgil’s name may be made to Kindred Hospice or the Church at Chapel Hill.
