Gammell, other area golfers finish strong at New Albany

NEW ALBANY – Centerburg’s Amaiah Gammell put in a strong showing on the second day of the two-day New Albany Links Classic on Tuesday at New Albany Links Golf Course.

Gammell — who played in the girls 16–18 group — parred five holes on the round, including four on the front nine. She finished with a 45 on the front nine, a 96 for the round and a 211 for the tournament.

Centerburg’s Somi Bright also competed in that group. She fired a 110 on Monday and finished with a two-day score of 238.

New Albany’s Mia Hammond shot a 4-over-par 148 to best the 14-player field.

Emerson Grassbaugh of Marengo improved his first-day 91 score by three strokes on Tuesday to finish with a two-day total of 179 in boys 16–18.

Dublin’s Klay Redmon won the 43-player division with a 160.

Will Streby and Spencer Hughes, both of Mount Vernon, competed in the boys 13–15 group. Streby closed his tournament with a birdie on 17 — his only one on Tuesday — to finish with a two-day score of 186. He improved his first-round score by six strokes.

Hughes finished with a 195 overall, improving his Round 1 score by 13 strokes on Tuesday.

Utica’s Avery Boyle shot a first-round 130 in the girls 13–15 group on Monday but did not compete Tuesday.
