MOUNT VERNON – Brian F. McClain, 58, of Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 14, 2021, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born on Oct. 11, 1962, in Philadelphia, the son of Thomas and Mary Jane (Henthorn) McClain.
Brian proudly served in the United States Navy from 1983 to 1985. He was currently employed with the United States Postal Service, where he started in 1999. Brian was a member of Amvets Post #95, Veterans for Foreign War Post #4027, the Colonial City Moose Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Brian was known by many for his years of umpiring with the Mount Vernon Girls Softball League. He enjoyed golfing, but most important to him was the quality time he spent with his family. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his children; Catrina (Shaun Thomas) Knight of Mount Vernon, Rebecca (Timothy McKnight) Knight of Mount Vernon and Brian (Natalie) Knight of Utica; grandchildren, Dailon, Shyann, Abigail, Donivon, Timmy, Emmaline, Alyssa, Jessica and Anthony; two brothers, Michael McLain of Philadelphia and Kevin (Maria) McClain of Bensalem, Philadelphia; two sisters, Kim (Kurt) Lepley of Mount Vernon and Theresa Strauch of Missoula, Montana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Brian was preceded in death by his wife, Donna J. McClain; and a brother, Patrick McClain.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050; where military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will begin at 5 p.m.
Memorial contributions in Brian’s name may be made to the Mount Vernon Girls Softball League.
