MOUNT VERNON – Dennis M. Mickley, 70, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Nov. 27, 1950, in Mount Vernon to the late Kenneth R. and Ruby (Hubbell) Mickley.

Dennis was a 1968 graduate of Mount Vernon High School. Soon after graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served honorably during the Vietnam War, earning three Bronze Stars. Upon returning home from Vietnam, Dennis went to work for his father at Mickley Oil for the next 44 years, and he had currently been president of the company.

Dennis was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He was an avid animal lover and enjoyed fishing when he was younger. Dennis loved to spend time with his family. He will be remembered for his willingness to lend a helping hand; and most of all, he will remembered for his infectious laugh.

Dennis is survived by his daughters, Angie (James Marti) Mickley of Mount Vernon and Lori (Neil Cline) Mickley of Mount Vernon; grandson, Korey James Marti of Mount Vernon; his stepmother, Naomi Mickley of Mount Vernon; sisters, Jenny (Jack) Neibarger of Mount Vernon and Kathy (Brett) Marble of Mount Vernon; brother, Kevin (Donna) Mickley of Mount Vernon; stepbrother, Kenny (Andrea) Belcher of Mount Vernon; brother-in-law, Larry Carver of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Janet “Mae” Mickley; a sister, Diane Carver; and brothers, Tim and Jim Mickley.

The family will have a private service. Dennis will be laid to rest beside his wife Janet in Mount Calvary Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
