MOUNT VERNON – The Knox County Regional Airport will receive $23,000 in Federal Aviation Administration grants for airports affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, a press release from U.S. Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) said.

Knox County’s airport is one of 65 facilities to receive the total $30 million in funding for Ohio airports, earmarked to provide pandemic relief.

The Airport Coronavirus Relief Program, part of a $908 billion spending agreement, comes courtesy of collaboration between Republicans and Democrats as well as both houses of Congress.

“The aviation industry’s recovery is critical to our nation’s economy,” Portman said in the release. “During this pandemic, the sharp decline in air travel left the industry in an uncertain economic position. I’m pleased to see this continued support for our airports as they ramp up services to meet the increasing demands of air travel as our country continues on the path to recovery.”
