MOUNT VERNON – Charles Richard Beever, 79, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021, at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on Nov. 24, 1941, in Mount Vernon to the late Charles C. and Geneva M. (Butler) Beever.
Charles was a 1959 graduate of Homer High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country for six years. He also took pride in working as a tool and die maker for Ariel Corporation in Mount Vernon, retiring in 2002 after nearly 30 years. Charles was quite the entrepreneur and always stayed busy. He owned Ohio Sanitation and Disposal Company. Charles and his wife, Dolores, also owned and operated Colonial Antiques for 45 years. After his retirement, he managed BRB Excavating with his son, Benjamin Beever.
Charles took great pride in his military service and was most honored to serve his country as a Marine. Semper Fi! He treasured his restored ’32 Ford American Graffiti yellow hot rod and enjoyed going to car shows and cruising around town... maybe doing a burnout or two. But, above all, Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and friends laughing and telling stories. No one told a story that could generate greater laughter than Charles!
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dolores (Hysong) Beever; his sons, Benjamin (Abby) Beever and Ronald DuMont of Mount Vernon, his daughters, Charlene (Joe) Clipse of Okatie, South Carolina, Nanette DuMont of Mount Vernon, Georganna Throm of Elmhurst, Illinois, and Kelly Kittler; a sister, Sherry (Thurman) Treadway of Utica; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a brother, Larry A. Beever.
It was Charles’ wish that his estate be used for others rather than himself, therefore no funeral services will be held. A military graveside service, provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will take place in Homer Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 10.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, garysinisefoundation.org.
The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Charles Richard Beever.
