The deadline for low-income households to apply for heating assistance through a federally funded program is fast approaching.

This funding is set aside for households threatened with disconnection from their heating source or that have already had service disconnected. The offer is also extended to households diagnosed with COVID-19, even if their power has not been disconnected. The program, however, ends March 31.

To qualify, you must provide income documentation for all household members. Income guidelines are based at 175% of the federal poverty level. For a family of four, the income must be at or below $45,850 annually, or at or below $3,768.49 for the previous 30 days.

If you are serviced by a PUCO-regulated utility, you can sign up for the Percentage of Income Payment Plus Plan (PIPP Plus) or an alternate budget payment plan. Those wishing to enroll in PIPP Plus have a lower income eligibility threshold: 150% of the federal poverty level. Approved applicants will also have their application automatically processed for the regular HEAP program, where additional assistance may be available.

To learn more or to apply, phone the Kno-Ho-Co-Ashland Community Action Commission’s HEAP office at 740-397-0378, or visit knohoco.org/emergency-home-energy-assistance-pr. Due to COVID-19, applications are only accepted by phone.
