MOUNT VERNON – Ray A. Peterson, 89, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Feb. 25, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born to Louis S. and Violet (Fox) Peterson on March 21, 1931, in Mount Vernon.
Ray was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War. He was a graduate of the St. Vincent de Paul School, Class of 1949. Ray was a patternmaker for 18 years at Cooper Bessemer and retired from the Sprint telephone company after 20 years of service. He was a member of the VFW and AMVETS. Ray enjoyed fishing and spending time at Lake Erie.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Turner; a son, Fred Peterson of Gambier; a daughter, Lisa Peterson of Montrose, Colorado; step-daughters, Vikki Turner of Mount Vernon, Roxie Turner of Mount Vernon and Pam Neipling from Mount Vernon; step-grandson, Rick and Heather (Ousley) Neipling of Mount Vernon; step-great-granddaughter, Annie Neipling of Mount Vernon; and step-great-grandson, Connor Perry of Mount Vernon.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Saundra Kolz; a brother, Robert Peterson; step-daughter, Teresa Turner; and step-grandson, Ryan Neipling.
The family will observe a private graveside service in Mound View Cemetery.
