MOUNT VERNON – Betty Eileen Zimmerman, 92, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021, at her residence. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, on July 15, 1928, to the late William and Helen (Schmischke) Carlson.
After high school, Betty attended nursing school and eventually became a registered nurse. She worked and retired from Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. She enjoyed traveling, and her favorite spot was the Caribbean. After retirement, her favorite thing to do was grab a fresh cup of coffee and read the newspaper. Betty loved her family dearly and will be missed by many.
She is survived by her children, Rick, Shelley and Todd Zimmerman; and grandchild, Kristofer Zimmerman.
Along with her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Zimmerman; a son, Kim Zimmerman; and brothers, Robert and Russel Carlson.
A celebration of life service will take place at a later date.
