Roundup: Pirates claim 7th consecutive conference crown

Beth Hardwick hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter and Kambry Edwards knocked down two more in the second quarter to help the Cardington-Lincoln girls basketball team build a 26-14 lead at the break.

The second-ranked Pirates (16-0, 12-0) cruised to a 53-38 win over Centerburg to clinch the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference championship outright for the fourth time in the four seasons of the league.

Cardington has won seven consecutive conference championships dating back to when the Pirates were members of the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference. The last six of those titles have been outright.

Hardwick finished with 15 points and Edwards added 12 points for Cardington.

Chloe Goulter and Amelia Smith scored 10 points apiece and Clara Johnson added nine points to pace the Trojans (5-14, 4-9).

Fredericktown 72, Northmor 53

Audrey Bouton and Gabby Daniels scored six points each to get Fredericktown off to a fast start with a 16-7 opening quarter.

Summer Weller caught fire in the second half, scoring all of her 23 points after the break to help the Freddies pull away in a 72-53 win over Northmor in KMAC play on Saturday, Jan. 30, in Galion.

Daniels and Bouton finished with 17 and 12 points, respectively; and Celeste Swihart and Jacklyn Nussbaum each added eight points for the Freddies (15-5, 9-3).

Lexi Wenger scored 18 points and Reagan Swihart added 13 points to lead the Golden Knights (3-14, 2-11).

Mount Gilead 68, East Knox 54

Host Mount Gilead hit 10 3-pointers en route to a 68-54 win over East Knox in KMAC play on Saturday, Jan. 30.

Holly Gompf hit three 3s and Candace Millisor added two more in the second quarter as MG built a 43-25 lead at the half. Gompf finished with 22 points, Millisor added 15 points and Madilyn Elson chipped in 10 points to lead MG (14-6, 8-5).

Laura Keith scored 17 points, Shanda Melick had 13 points and Alexandria Magers added 10 points to lead the Bulldogs (7-11, 5-7).

Lakewood 64, Utica 28

Camryn Martindale scored 10 of her game-best 18 points in the first half to lead Lakewood to a 64-28 win over Utica in Licking County League play on Saturday, Jan. 30, in Hebron.

Alexa Cummins had 14 points and Eva Porter added 11 points for the Lancers (4-11, 3-8).

Shawna Blake led Utica (1-17, 0-13) with nine points.

West Holmes 63, Mount Vernon 21

Katie Spreng scored 10 of her game-best 19 points in the first quarter, and visiting West Holmes used a stout defense to down Mount Vernon 63-21 in Ohio Cardinal Conference play on Saturday, Jan. 30, at The Hive.

Kinsey Patterson added 10 points for the Knights (15-3, 9-0), who led 24-11 at the half before blowing it open with a 22-6 third quarter.

Lexi Shaffer scored five points, and Emilee Burke and Sydney Lyons added four points each for the Yellow Jackets (5-7, 4-4).
