STERLING – J. Michael Smith, 76, of Sterling, passed away on Dec. 31, 2020. He was born on Aug.26, 1944, in Mount Vernon to the late Joseph C. and Kathleen (Lybarger) Smith.
Michael graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1962 and earned his bachelor's degree from Kent State University and a master's degree from Ashland University. He then worked at Cloverleaf Schools of Medina County until he retired in 2000. He was a member of the Burbank Trinity United Methodist Church and enjoyed both woodworking and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine (Gorby) Smith, whom he met at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center and married on April 2, 1967; and by his brother, Daniel (Sandi) Smith of Mount Vernon, and by nieces and nephews.
