MOUNT VERNON – Mitchell L. Rhea, 57, of Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, at his home. He was born on Sept. 22, 1963, in Mount Vernon, the son of Claude and Charlene (Glass) Rhea.
Mitch graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1981 and later earned an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering and Electrical Mechanical Engineering. He previously worked for the American Showa Company, Sanoh, Cardington Yutaka Technologies and was currently employed at KDC-One.
Mitch was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He was a simple man who enjoyed nothing more than spending quality time with his family. Mitch was most happy when he was spending time with his wife Debbie, who was the love of his life; watching Brittany play softball through college and Logan play baseball, track and football through college.
Mitch was characterized by his love and tireless devotion to his family and all whom he encountered, allowing his legacy to be remembered for his silent but also so present voice of Love. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Debra (Hinzman) Rhea, whom he married on July 16, 1983; his children, Brittany Rhea of Mount Vernon and Logan (Lucia Petrus) Rhea of Columbus; his granddaughter, Kahlee Rose Rhea; sister, Michelle Rhea; many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Paul (Curtis Clifford) Hinzman; and lifetime friends, Sandi and Rich Hauger, Sherry and Jon Edwards and dear friend Mike Maes.
Mitch was preceded in death by two daughters, Devonney Rhea and Kelly Rhea.
The family will observe private services.
Memorial contributions in Mitch’s name may be made to the Knox County Animal Shelter or Knox County Humane Society.
