KETTERING – Gary William Kost, 80, of Kettering, died peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020, with his family at his bedside. He was born on July 28, 1940, to John and Ethel Kost of Mount Vernon. 

Gary graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1958, The Ohio State University in 1962, and he attended Kenyon College. He was a teacher at Mount Vernon High- and Middle Schools for 38 years and was a member of Gay Street United Methodist Church for many years. After moving to Dayton, he volunteered at Dayton Christian Schools for 18 years, was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior and their Social Ministry, and was a volunteer at the Victoria Theater. Gary loved his family, friends and church.

For those of us who were blessed to know Gary, we will always remember him for his selflessness, wit, kindness, love and patriotism.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Beth; daughter, Kathy (Dr. Jonathan) Paley; sons, Bryan (Taryn) Kost and Lt. Col. Jay Kost; brothers, Greg (Terri) Kost and George Kost; grandchildren, Joseph and Allison Paley, and Taylor, Ireland, Elijah, Elim, Isabella, Anna and Christopher Kost; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. 

Funeral services will be private.
