MOUNT VERNON – Dennis M. Suain, 71, of Mount Vernon, died on Nov. 7, 2020, at OSU Wexner Medical Center, after a long illness. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Oct.18, 1949.
Dennis' family moved to Mount Vernon in 1950 before his first birthday. He promptly got busy building his family a home. They moved into said home before he turned three, but his recollections of building it himself were vivid.
He graduated from Mount Vernon High School, then went on to attend the school of hard knocks. After dabbling in a few trades, he settled on a career as an insurance adjuster. He worked as an independent adjuster until his retirement.
Dennis was an avid hot-rodder and loved spending time in the garage. He was naturally drawn to anything mechanical and loved fixing things. You could always count on him to prove you wrong if you said something was impossible. He loved racing and maybe above all other things, storytelling. There wasn’t a topic that he couldn’t expand on and has written/published at least one book.
Dennis was also a fantastic cook. Anyone fortunate enough to have had a piece of his secret-family-recipe fudge would agree. He was quick to reprimand anyone who dared to eat his fudge “like candy.”
He was a very caring person, always looking out for others as well as himself. He could act gruff, but he had a heart of gold.
Dennis is survived by his son, Andrew; granddaughter, Daisy; sister, Jackie (Jim) Davidson; brother-in-law, Jim Brown; beloved nieces and nephews, Nick, Jon, Stacey, Sean and Tina; and an abundance of cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, John (Jack) Suain; his mother, Merita (Mickey) Kraengel Suain; brother, Gregory; sister, Beth Suain-Brown; and nephew, Ben Brown.
In keeping with Dennis' wishes, there will be no calling hours. A celebration of life service will be held on a date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, do something kind for someone in need.
