Winter is once again upon us with new challenges presented through a COVID-19-riddled economy that has placed a greater number of people in economic uncertainty.
There is relief in the form of heating assistance through a number of programs for those in Knox County and Ontario, Ohio. Columbia Gas reported in a press release that it is offering several avenues of assistance to its customers beginning on Nov. 1. There is a one-time grant available through the Winter Crisis Program for those who are income-eligible. Grant funding can be used for accounts that have been shut down or will be shut down due to non-payment.
The maximum income guidelines for a family of one are set at $22,230 and for a family of two are $30,170. The limits range from a family of four with an income of $45,850 to a family of eight with an income of $77,210. Residents of Knox County are instructed to contact the Kno-Ho-Ashland Community Action Commission.
Columbia Gas also reported that it is offering the Winter Reconnect Order, which will run through April 21. Through the order, a customer whose gas will be turned off can make a payment of $175 plus a reconnection fee regardless of how much is owed. There are no financial parameters to qualify. There are also a number of payment plans designed to help customers catch up on past-due bills.
“Especially amidst a global pandemic, we understand heating season will present challenges for our customers,” Vince Parisi, president and COO of Columbia Gas of Ohio, said in the release. “Our entire team is here to help. Please reach out and connect with us to get the assistance you need this winter.”
