Closing out the regular season and entering play-offs, 20 local gridiron players finished among Ohio’s high school elite, with several earning spots in mutliple categories.

Top-seeded Milford Center Fairbanks took down fifth-seed Fredericktown(18-7) in straight sets, 3-0,by scores of 26-24, 25-17, 28-26, on Oct. 25. The Freddies came into the round after defeating No. 20 Utica 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-12, 25-16) and No. 22 seed Columbus School For Girls, 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-8.

In their division competitions, Highland’s Juliette Laracuente won the long jump, finished second in the 100-meter hurdles and third in the high jump, Mount Gilead’s Michaela McGill placed second in the 3200 meter run in 10.57.18 and East Knox’s Nathan Streby placed second in the 800 meters in 1:53.49 to lead local-track and field finishers at the OHSAA Track And Field Championships.
