Laracuente, McGill and Streby with podium finishes at OHSAA track championships

In their division competitions, Highland’s Juliette Laracuente won the long jump, finished second in the 100-meter hurdles and third in the high jump, Mount Gilead’s Michaela McGill placed second in the 3200-meter run in 10.57.18, and East Knox’s Nathan Streby placed second in the 800 meters in 1:53.49 to lead local-track and field finishers at the OHSAA Track And Field Championships on June 3 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

In Division 2 competition, Highland’s Laracuente competed in three events, finishing first in the long jump with a season-best 19-feet-9.75 inches, winning by 1-foot-6.25 inches; and finishing third in the high jump at 5-feet-6-inches (an inch behind the leaders). Laracuente also made the podium in the 100-meter hurdles. After finishing second in the prelims with a season-best 14.47 seconds, she came in third in the finals at 14.63, 0.07 out of second and 0.15 behind the winner.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Fredericktown’s Ashley Cockrell ran twelfth in the prelims with a time of 15.57, only 0.26 seconds away from reaching the finals.

On the men’s side, Utica’s Jay Figgins finished fifth in the 1600-meter run finals with a season-best time of 4:16.95, 2.26 seconds off the podium.

In Division 3 events, for the women, Mount Gilead’s McGill placed second in the 3200-meter run in 10.57.18, only 2.09 out of first place and 7.83 ahead of the third-place finisher. The Lady Redskins’ 4x100 relay team finished 11th in 51.32.

Cardington-Lincoln’s Loey Hallarbrin was 16th in the 1600-meter run in 5:35.96 and C-L’s relay team placed 17th in the 4x100 in 53.03

Centerburg’s Avery Tucker was 16th in the high jump at 5-foot-0 inches

In Men’s Division 3 events, East Knox’s Streby placed second in the 800-meters in 1:53.49 and Dillon Moreland was sixth in 1:57.00. Streby was 4.53 seconds behind the winner, and Moreland missed the podium by 2.48 seconds. The EK relay teams placed eighth in the 4x400 in 3:28.76 (3.47 seconds off the podium) and fifth in the 4x800m in 8:07.08 (5.83 out of third place).

Mount Gilead’s Michael Snopik ran seventh in the 1600 meters in 4.23.68, Parker Bartlett was 12th and Will Baker was 15th in the 3200 meters at 9:58.05 and 10:06.43 respectively. Garrett Lamb Hart finished 15th in the 110-meter hurdles in 16:12, just ahead of 17th-place finisher Gavan Davis in 17:09. Mt. Gilead’s relay teams finished 14th in the 4x100 (in 44.60) and 4x200 (1:32.19) and eighth in the 4x800 (in 8:11.46)

Centerburg’s Alex Hayden was 11th in the 3200-meter run in 9:53.56.
