National Federation of State High School Associations and local high school athletic directors seek to bench bad behavior.

The All-Ohio girls and boys basketball teams were announced this week by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association, and to some local parents and supporters, it seems that Knox County and vicinity student-athletes were underrepresented in the selections.

Knox County and vicinity schools were well-represented in the 2023 OHSAA State Tournaments last weekend at the Jerome Schottenstein Center, The Ohio State University, Columbus. Seventeen high school wrestlers from eight schools made the cut to the state competition with one third-place finish on the boys' side, while five other boys and two girls also placed at the event.

The 2023 OHSAA girls sectional basketball playoffs began in mid-February with all 10 local schools in brackets with a chance to advance to the sectional championships and a slot in the district round. On Feb. 24, only one local school was still standing, the Mount Gilead Indians, and in the sectional finals, the team gave it their all.

Mount Vernon High School had 10 wrestlers reach the podium at the OHSAA Division I Sectional Tournament at Watkins Memorial High School on Feb. 25 and won it all, finishing in first place with 256.0 points

All 10 local high school girls basketball programs entered the 2023 OHSAA Girls Basketball Playoffs and there is one team standing, as sectional competition reaches the final round. In Division IV, Region 15 play, Mount Gilead continues on, as Danville fell one game short of the finals.

Ten local high school teams entered the 2023 OHSAA girls basketball playoffs a week ago, and only two remain going into the semifinals, as Mount Gilead and Danville have qualified into the next round of the Division IV, Region 15 competition.
