Cardington-Lincoln 3, Bishop Ready 0
No. 2 seed Cardington-Lincoln (22-3, 12-0) took on 15 seed Bishop Ready (5-19, 0-6) in the opening round of the playoffs and it was an easy win for the Pirates in a 3-0 win. The Division 3, Region 12 match, played Oct. 27 was dominated by the Lady Pirates, who won by set scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-17 to complete the sweep.
Audrey Brininger led the charge for C-L with 18 kills, one ace and 10 digs. Payton Goodman had 14 digs to go with her 10 kills and three aces. Izzy Wickline added seven kills and four blocks. Cadie Long was strong on defense with 19 digs to lead the team. Jadine Mills had 39 assists and eight digs.
Cardington-Lincoln went on to play Pleasant on Saturday in the District Finals.
Marion Pleasant 3, Northmor 2
No. 13 Northmor (10-13, 6-6) took on No.7 Marion Pleasant (13-12, 7-7) on Thursday in Division 3, Region 12 playoff volleyball and the Spartans walked away with a 3-2 victory.
Next up for the Spartans was the District Finals against Cardington-Lincoln, where they lost 3-1.
Highland 3, London 0
No. 2 seed Highland (22-3, 13-1) took on the four-seed London Red Raiders (22-3, 8-2) in the opening round of the Division 2, Region 8 playoffs, and the Lady Scots made easy work of London in a 3-0 win.
Highland had a 13-9 lead in the first set but London clawed back to tie things up at 13. There were 13 more ties throughout the rest of the set, but the Lady Scots were able to take a 28-26 win thanks to a missed serve by London followed by a Zoya Winkelfoos kill. Kameron Stover led the way with eight kills, and Winkelfoos added five more.
The second set had Highland jumping out to a 10-4 lead but London battled to tie things at 12 and 15. The Lady Scots then went on a 10-3 run to finish out the set strong. Stover was on fire with 10 kills and Mia Stanco blocked two shots.
The third set started with the Lady Scots down 10-5 before tying things up at 13. Once again it was a tight battle, with eight more ties including as late in the set as at 23. The Scots took match point on another missed serve by London. The team was led b y Winkelfoos and Larsen Terrill who had four blocks.
Leading the Highland offense was Kameron Stover with 20 kills and three aces. Winkelfoos had 11 kills and Larsen Terrill had six kills and 32 assists.
The win gave the Scots a spot in the district championship for the ninth time in 10 years, facing Bloom Carroll (22-3, 13-1) on Saturday. Highland won in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2019 and 2021.
Highland 3, Bloom Carroll 2
On Saturday, Oct. 29, the Lady Scots (23-3, 13-1) took on Bloom Carroll (22-4,13-1) in a battle of No. 10 and No. 20 ranked teams in Division 2, Region 8, and while it was a hard-fought battle right to the fifth set, Highland took the win and secured their sixth district championship in 10 years.
It was a back-and-forth match from the opening set, as the two teams exchanged leads multiple times before Highland taking a 25-23 win. The Scots had 14 total kills in the set, as well as four blocks.
The second set had Highland getting to a 7-3 lead and cruised to a 25-14 win. They were led by Kameron Stover and Zoya Winkelfoos had four kills in the set.
The third set saw the see-saw battle continue. The game was tied more than once, including 13-13 when Bloom Carroll made a run and forced Highland to call timeouts at 13-15 and 16-20. The Bulldogs took over the rest of the way and finished with a 25-18 win.
With Highland holding a 2-1 match lead, the fourth set was a grueling battle that was tied multiple times again. The Scots battled and had a 25-24 lead, but Bloom Carroll was able to squeak by with a 27-25 win to tie things up. Stover had 10 kills and four blocks in the set.
In the fifth set had ties at every point except for two and 12. The Lady Scots had a 13-11 lead and Bloom Carroll called a timeout, but then the Bulldogs were able to tie the set at 13 and 14. Alexis Eusey and Larsen Terrill pulled through in the clutch with back-to-back kills to take a district championship.
Leading the way for the Lady Scots was Stover with 26 kills and 21 digs. Terrill did an excellent job setting the ball with 52 assists to go along with her eight kills and 14 digs. Winkelfoos had 14 kills, three aces and 14 digs. Camryn Miller had 29 digs in what was an inspiring defensive effort. Brooke Schott posted 12 kills and nine blocks. Eusey had seven jills and 14 digs.
Highland travels to Vandalia Butler High School in North Dayton on Thursday to take on a tough Hamilton Badin squad at 6 p.m. Hamilton Badin is the number two team in Division 2.
Cardington-Lincoln 3, Pleasant 1
The No. 2 Cardington-Lincoln Pirates (22-3, 12-0) took on theNo. 7 Marion Pleasant Spartans (13-12, 7-7) on Saturday in the District Finals of the Division 3, Region 12 tournament. The Lady Pirates had their hands full, but were led and inspired by Audrey Brininger, who had 20 kills to lead the Pirates to a 3-1 win.
Pleasant took the first set by a tight score of 25-23 but Cardington-Lincoln dominated the second and third sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-13. Set four was a 25-21 win for the Lady Pirates.
Brininger had four aces, three blocks and 13 digs to go with her 20 kills. Cadie Long was a force on defense with 28 digs. Jadine Mills had 47 assists in what was a big night for the setter. She also had an ace, a block and 10 digs. Payton Goodman had 16 digs and eight kills and Madison Linkous had eight digs and seven kills. Izzy Wickline had a solid night on offense with 13 kills.
On Nov. 3 Cardington-Lincoln takes on Versailles, the top seed in the tournament, with the match at Fairmont High School starting at 6 p.m.
