The City of Mount Vernon OH reported that the community gathered at Mound View Chapel for the first Memorial Day Sunrise Service hosted by the Mount Vernon Association of Police Chaplains on Monday morning. The event’s theme was "Remembering Sacrifice, Honoring Service, Guarding Memory." Chaplain Lucian Baker led the service with a message focused on gratitude and reflection, emphasizing the importance of keeping the memory of those lost as a shared responsibility within the community.

The service provided an opportunity for families of fallen service members to find comfort and for attendees to support them collectively. The city thanked all who participated in the morning gathering and expressed appreciation to the chaplains for organizing the event.

Additional Memorial Day activities were scheduled throughout the day. Residents were invited to join a parade at 10:30 a.m., starting at E. High Street and George Street, followed by a remembrance ceremony at the Knox Memorial Building.

City officials encouraged everyone to have a meaningful Memorial Day.
